Book Design for Debut Novel Kill&Cure

Andy Ashdown has conducted the complete design work for Stephen Davison's thrilling crime novel Kill&Cure.
The intensely compelling debut novel explodes onto the crime fiction scene with a ruthless verve. An intricate mix of medical brainteasers, brutal killings and a desperate quest for truth, Kill&Cure is a masterly display of serpentine plot lines and disturbing flashbacks.London chiropractor, David Stichell, a man in the business of freeing others from pain, may seem an unlikely, if intriguing, protagonist. Yet there are dark shadows in his past intent on catching up with him. As murder victims pile up, Stichell finds himself dragged into a remorseless web of treachery and lies, pursued not only by the police, but by very particular powers who want him dead.‘How would you react if you were suddenly snatched out of everyday life and plunged into a nightmare?’ Stephen asks. ‘That’s the question I’ve had in my head since a policeman stopped me in the street one day and said, “There’s just been an incident. You fit the description of the person we want to talk to.” He bundled me into the back of a waiting car and locked the door. After some time, a man strode up, thrust his face close to the window and stared in at me. Finally, he snapped upright and I heard him say, “No, that’s not him.” Then I was free to go. But I’ve always wondered what would have happened if the man had said, “Yes, he’s the one.”’The Director of a chiropractic clinic, Stephen Davison has also studied immunology and developmental genetics. With his knowledge and understanding of the clinical world of scientific investigation as the linchpin, his novel becomes a deftly woven tapestry of violence and deception, where life is at once precious and expendable. Even as the truth unravels, Davison’s hero is still left to face up to one of the toughest fights of his life. Fast-paced and suspenseful, set against a minutely researched medical backdrop, Kill&Cure is the vivid exploration of one man’s instincts for survival when events spiral out of his control.
Andy has designed the book cover, typeset the pages and created all the associated publicity material.
For more information see www.stephendavison.com

The Mid Sussex Wood Recycling Project has launched a new identity created by Andy Ashdown.
A huge amount of waste timber is generated by industries working in construction, demolition and manufacture. Every year, UK business buys approximately 6 million wooden pallets – the majority of these being non-returnable. Operating as a social enterprise, the not-for-profit environmental group is financially self-supporting. Income is derived from the charges made for the collection service, and from sales of wood and wood products. Any surplus is reinvested in order to provide a vital environmental service to the Mid Sussex area
Items collected include wooden pallets, packaging and contaminated timber (e.g. painted, laminated, etc).
Mid Sussex Wood Recycling will collect from any business located in the Mid Sussex area.
A Children’s Book With A Message

Andy Ashdown has created the jacket and page design for The Lying Tree – an exciting novel for children… with a message.

Written by Alexa Tewkesbury and Steve Legg, the award-winning creators of It’s A Boy!, The Lying Tree is the gripping story of what happened when a young boy’s lies became his life.

Andy commissioned local illustrator Nadia Chalk to create the cover image, as well as illustrations for the pages.

Jamie Bryce is a lonely, eleven-year-old boy whose mum has walked out on him. When he and his dad move away to start a new life without her, Jamie decides no one’s ever going to know the truth. It’ll be easy. He’ll never tell anyone anything about himself – especially not that his mum didn’t love him enough to stay. If someone asks, he can make it all up. He can be whoever he wants to be, invent an entire life.

But keeping up with all his lies doesn’t turn out to be that simple. And after a curious meeting with a stranger one day after school, things take a decidedly sinister turn.

The Lying Tree is published by Canaan Press and is available to buy online at www.canaanpress.co.uk

Canaan Press Launches E-Commerce Website

Following the completion of a new identity for Canaan Press last year, Andy Ashdown has further applied the branding to a new website, enabling the charity to sell its range of books online.

Canaan Press offers unknown writers an opportunity to be published and earn money alongside confidence and self-esteem. Whether it’s a real-life portrayal of courage, an inspiring tale of love, or the irresistible telling of a child’s bedtime tale doesn’t matter. Canaan Press believes in helping people reap the rewards of their labours, enabling authors to take an active part in the marketing of their stories, for a large proportion of the profits.

Lynette Leitch, co-founder of Canaan Press said, “Getting a book published, unless you have contacts or a degree of celebrity status, can be a lengthy and disheartening affair. The decision to set up a Trust Fund to offer holidays to families dealing with life-limiting illness also motivated us to start a publishing company. Now, all profits from our first book are donated to the Trust.”

“We have since discovered there are many people with amazing stories to tell but who need a helping hand to get published. At Canaan Press we offer an opportunity to potential authors to participate in a major way in the whole process of publishing their work, and allow them to keep the lion’s share of the fruits of their labours. They, in return, contribute to a very worthy cause.”

Andy is currently working on the design of further Canaan Press titles, to be published in the coming months, alongside associated advertising and marketing material.

For more information on books currently available please visit www.canaanpress.co.uk

It’s A Gift As Children’s Transplant Charity Relaunches

Formally known as HTFT, Gift – The Children’s Transplant Charity – is launching a revitalised branding through a range of printed items designed by Andy Ashdown.

Gift is a registered national charity working on behalf of paediatric
transplant patients and their families. Through their work, Gift aims
to improve the outcomes for children and families touched by
transplantation.

HTFT came into existence in 1995 and operated successfully as the only national support group for paediatric heart and heart/lung transplant patients in the UK. During 2007 it became apparent that there was a need to expand the remit of the charity to include other organ recipients. This coincided with a very generous legacy, which has provided the platform to take forward a number of exciting projects.

The renaming of the charity has followed consultation with the wider transplant community and the Charity Commission.

Families whose children have received an organ transplant are invited
to join and benefit from the services that the charity offers.

Vashti Poole, Gift Communications Project Manager said, “Every year there is an increasing number of children requiring major organ transplantation. We provide practical and emotional support helping children, families and their healthcare providers to overcome issues faced while on the journey of transplantation.”

With studio photography by Maria Scard, Andy is creating leaflets,
newsletters, stationery, posters, certificates and journals, all to be
implemented throughout early 2008.

For more information on Gift visit www.giftctc.org.uk

Matt’s Canaan Trust Sees A Design Revamp

Andy Ashdown has completed a major redesign for Matt’s Canaan Trust, including a new corporate identity, website, newsletters and stationery.

Inspired by one brave boy, Matt’s Canaan Trust was founded to honour the memory of Matthew Leitch, who died from a rare, malignant brain tumour weeks before his 14th birthday in 2002.

Matt's Canaan Trust is working to provide respite breaks and dream holidays to patients and carers with life-threatening illnesses. The vision for the Trust is to provide holidays uniquely suited to each individual family’s needs, whether that be abroad or nearer to home.

Based in West Sussex, Matt’s Canaan Trust helps families from all over the UK, and the criterion for consideration is not limited to children as the patients. They consider each referral on its own merit, irrespective of whether the patient is a child or adult.

For more information please visit www.mattscanaantrust.com

Thanks to Highdown Vineyard

A big thank you to Highdown Vineyard near Worthing, who has worked in conjunction with Andy Ashdown to formulate a brief for the Year 1 HNC Graphic Design students at nearby Northbrook College.

Andy, who teaches on the HNC course, developed a fictional brief for the students to design bottle labels for several of Highdown Vineyard's wines.

Andy said, "Being able to work on projects such as this adds an important sense of realism to the students' work. Proper research can be conducted and students have the opportunity to learn more about their 'client', applying the knowledge to create relevant design solutions."

Highdown Vineyard is located near Ferring, just outside of Worthing, within a beautiful area of the South Downs with conditions perfect for producing quality wines.

iPages Sites Go From Strength To Strength

iPages, the leading Sussex web design and hosting company, has been utilising Andy Ashdown's design services to provide their clients with eye-catching ecommerce websites.

Businesses nationwide have been witnessing incredible success by using the iPages ecommerce service.

"Ecommerce always seems daunting," explains Dr Stephen Khoo, Managing Director of iPages, "but an iPages ecommerce website really can bring a new stream of revenue, without having to cost the earth. Although businesses would normally pay around £70,000 for an ecommerce website, we offer ours from as little as £30.00 per calendar month. Once you have put in your products, sorted out the banking requirements and set up your suppliers (or let your warehouse know that there will be additional orders) then you're away! It really is that simple! That's why we have clients who run their business from abroad because it takes so little time to manage the ecommerce site.

Dr Khoo said, " iPages is the perfect vehicle for advertising your business and increasing sales. Clients can keep their website up to date and let their customers and prospects know what is currently available. Our News Module, which incorporates an RSS feed, has helped clients improve their ranking on Google and the efficiency of the sites means that visitors can find information quickly and easily.

To learn more about the iPages service visit www.ipages.biz or telephone iPages directly on 01403 786984.

Cost Effective Design for Charities

Cost Effective Design for Charities

Andy Ashdown is offering a 10% discount on his rates for all design work undertaken for voluntary, charitable and non-profit making organisations.

Andy said, "Charities should not think that quality graphic design is out of their reach, or that their budgets do not justify it. It is just as important that charities invest in branding and advertising as any other business, especially as they are often so dependent on public funding. It is my aim to provide organisations in the charity sector with a high quality design service that focuses on raising their profile and improving public perception."

If you would like advice on how Andy can help your organisation, get in touch for an informal discussion.

Incentives for Start-Up Businesses

Incentives for Start-Up Businesses

Andy Ashdown has launched a range of incentives specifically aimed at helping start-up businesses.

With limited budgets, many start-up businesses choose to sideline graphic design, seeing it as a 'luxury' that can wait until later. Or, worse, businesses will choose a 'budget' option, such as design thrown in by an amateur designer as an inclusive to a print deal.

The public's perception of any organisation through its branding and advertising can mean the difference between success and failure in the early days. Andy is fosused on educating businesses that strong graphic design is an essential business tool that should be considered from the outset.

Andy has a cost effective scale of charges for everything from a simple logo to a full marketing campaign. If you are considering launching a new business and would like advice on how Andy can help you, get in touch for an informal discussion.

Jubilee Church Stands Out in Worthing

Jubilee Church in Worthing continues to roll out its revitalised branding, created by Andy Ashdown.

The church is creating an impact in Worthing through its bold and colourful identity, along with a new 'be jubilant' strapline. The branding can now be seen across advertising in local papers, church flyers and, unmistakably, on large banners that adorn the entrance to its Sunday services at Worthing High School.

In addition, Jubilee Church has launched a revamped website at www.jubilee-church.co.uk, which also incorporates the new look.

Peter Saner, one of the leaders of the church, said, "Jubilee has been going strong in and around Worthing for well over a decade. With a growing congregation and involvement in many key town initiatives, we wanted a coherant, clearly identifiiable brand that projects everything the church stands for".

Halo Recycling Aims To Reduce Landfill

Halo Recycling Aims To Reduce Landfill

Andy Ashdown has created the identity for new plastic recycling company, Halo Recycling.

Halo Recycling launched in April 2007 and aims to help companies save money by recycling waste plastics and so reduce landfill.

The environmental impact of commercial waste is a hot topic and it is estimated that existing landfill sites will only last another 13 years if no new sites are commissioned. Waste polythene seems to be a problem for most businesses; it is light yet bulky and takes up valuable space in waste containers. Halo Recycling collect waste polythene from companies in and around West Sussex which they then bale up and pass on to a re-processing firm.

Peter Fitzgerald,
Managing Director, said, "Halo Recycling was born from my genuine desire to reveal the benefits of recycling to Sussex companies. Free one month trials are being offered to educate Sussex companies about the savings they can make and to encourage them to try recycling their waste plastics".
